Luck #1, Griffin #2 ????

Now that Manning is a free agent it seems that Andrew Luck will be the first overall pick of this years draft. The Colts released Manning, along with other key players over the last couple weeks signalling that they will be rebuilding their team over the next few years. The Washington Redskins made a trade with the St. Louis Rams for the 2nd overall pick of the draft. The Rams acquired the 6th overall pick, 2 additional 1st round picks, and a 2nd round pick. With this trade it seems certain that the Redskins will be after Robert Griffin lll. They are now almost guaranteed that he is available with the 2nd pick rather than their previous pick of 6.

The Top of the Combine

The NFL combine opened last Wednesday (February, 22) in Indianapolis. Many prospects came to workout and show that they are the top performers at their positions entering the upcoming draft. We will quickly look at some of the top performers from each event.

40 Yard Dash

TRAVIS BENJAMIN MIAMI- 4.36 seconds
CHRIS OWUSU STANFORD- 4.36 seconds
ROBERT GRIFFIN III BAYLOR- 4.41 seconds

Bench Press

DONTARI POEME MEMPHIS- 44 reps
DAVID MOLK MICHIGAN- 41 reps

Vertical Jump

KASHIF MOORE UCONN- 43.5 inches
JERRELL JACKSON MISSOURI- 41.0 inches

Of these top performers none stood out like Robert Griffin III, with his unbelievable sped in the 40 yard dash. Experts are comparing his speed to the speed of Michael Vick. Griffin proved to many critics that he is the real deal and a true NFL athlete.

Superbowl Over.....What's Next?

Now that the Super Bowl is over, what is next for the NFL? The next major event for NFL owners, coaches, and us fans is the yearly NFL combine. This years combine takes place in the very same building that the New York Giants won the Super Bowl last night. The combine will start on February 22nd and run until the 28th. The combine gives a chance for players entering the draft to show their skills to team scouts. This year their should be some major standouts who are looking to improve their position in the draft. Robert Griffin III is one of them, critics say that he may not have what it takes to be an elite NFL QB but the combine will give him a chance to demonstrate his skills to scouts. Justin Blackmon is another to look out for. With Peyton Manning cleared to play next year will Indy resign him? If so will they still draft Andrew Luck 1st overall? or will they look to pick up someone like Justin Blackmon? If Blackmon stands out in the combine and on his pro day he may just lock up the number one pick overall. Their are many others who will look to improve their position on draft day, so this years combine should be interisting.

Robert Griffin III

Born: February 12, 1990
Position: QB
College: Baylor

Where will Griffin Fall?

Most people predict that Andrew Luck will go first overall this year, but where will this years Heisman Trophy winner fall. Griffin being the number 2 rated QB going into this years draft should be picked up in the top 5 picks. I believe that the Cleveland Browns will choose Griffin with the 4th overall pick. Griffin will replace Colt McCoy in Cleveland as he has not developed the way the browns expected him to when they drafted him in the 2010 draft.

Griffin possesses all the skills of a dual-threat QB with his big arm, quick reflexes, and lightning fast speed. Griffin is a true athlete competing in football, basketball, and track back in his high school days. The 2011 season was huge for Griffin as he lead the Baylor Bears to an impressive 10-3 record as Baylor was predicted to have an off season. Griffin took home the Heisman Trophy in 2011 as well as many other awards including the Davey O'brien Award, and was named the Associate Press College Football player of the year. Griffin finished the season with 3,398 passing yards, a 72.4% completion rate, 36 touchdown passes, and only 6 interceptions.

After playing only 3 years of college football Griffin has developed many skills that he will use as a pro QB, but has many years to further develop being so young. Griffin will be an excellent edition to the Cleveland Browns and give their lack lustre offence an other dimension with this young explosive player.

Andrew Luck

Born: September 12, 1989
Position: QB
College: Stanford

Andrew Luck the number one pick this year?

Yes, I believe that Luck will be selected first overall by the Indianapolis Colts this year. The Colts are looking for a replacement to Peyton Manning as he did not play this season after undergoing neck surgery. Manning has been the Colts star QB since 1998 but his future playing football is uncertain at this time. The Colts without Manning had a record of 2-14 this past season and don't want a repeat next season.

Luck was the Heisman Trophy runner up in both 2010 and 2011. Luck won the Maxwell award as well as the Walter Camp award in 2011 and was also named a 1st team all-american. Sports analyst Rob Rang said that Luck was the best prospect he has ever spotted. Luck led the Stanford Cardinals to a 11-2 record and gave them a birth in the Fiesta bowl. Luck completed over 71% of his passes this last season for a total of 3,517 yards. He also had 37 touchdown passes to 10 interceptions giving him a QB rating of 169.7. Not only does Luck posses the physical skills of a pro QB, he has great field vision and leadership skills. They say that Luck is one of the smartest QB's to ever enter the draft and they are already comparing him to the great Peyton Manning.

Luck possess all the skills of a pro QB coming into the draft, meaning he will adapt to the pro game very quickly and could very well be starting QB in the NFL next year. With his style so similar to Peyton Manning, Luck would be a great fit in Indianapolis. With the uncertainty of Manning's future Luck would be a great pick for Indianapolis and with the first overall pick in this years draft I believe they will choose Andrew Luck, not only for his tangible skills he brings to the field but as well as all of the intangibles he has developed.
